Rock N' Roll, Rock N' Responsibility
During the past week, I’ve had the privilege & pleasure of enjoying two of contemporary music’s enduring performers.
CHUCK BERRY
Standing 10ft from one of Rock n Roll’s great legends is a memory that will stay with me a long time. Last Thursday at the Waterfront Hall Belfast, every rif, every line was pregnant with the power, majesty & ministry of Rock N Roll. The man showed that even at 80yrs old, he could capture his audience with a style & stage presence often sought but rarely found. Johnny B Goode, Memphis Tennessee, Little Queenie highlighted a musical canon that can rarely if ever be matched.
Hail Hail Rock N Roll!

Then last night at Belfast’s Empire Music Hall, one of Canada’s finest cast his spell of Rock N Responsibility. Bruce Cockburn’s poetic, prophetic yet humble muse reminded us that Rock N Roll not only entertains us, but also challenges us to think not just of ourselves, but of those at the bottom of the pile.

Sounds like two great venues. There is nothing to compare with watching amazing live music being performed. It takes you into a realm which is touched by few other experiences in life.
One of my stand-out concerts was seeing the King of the Blues, Mr BB himself in the Waterfront. He has such a humble and gentle personality and very gifted spine-tingly stage presence. His music was surreal but so was his live show.
That sort of stage presence is seldom seen in modern artists and certainly can't be fabricated by some sort of template no matter how hard Simon Cowell tries the formula. Rock on real musicians!
Two great gigs. I wish I'd been at both. Maybe next time
Mark, Mitch here, friend of Glenn's, stumbled over from Crooked Shore. Good to see Cockburn on your list. I saw him in 1980 (am I that old?!) in a club in Chicago with about 25 people. He saved my faith in college. Haven't connected as much to his recent stuff quite like the old stuff. But he was and still is a hero. . . looking forward to meeting you in 5 short months!
