WORLD AIDS DAY

Hi everyone,

'In honor of World AIDS Day on December 1st, Bristol-Myers Squibb, the pharmaceutical monolith (that charges nearly $1000 for a 30 day supply of one of its HIV/AIDS medications), is donating $1 to the National AIDS Fund for each person who simply visits their website and "virtually lights a candle."

Please, please take a minute to "light a candle":

https://www.lighttounite.org/

It's completely free, quick, and [almost] painless. Then, after you light your candle, "pass it on" to your friends.'

I went to a tearfund showing of the constant gardener on Friday. It was a good event and raised money and awareness of AIDS. I learnt that the fastest growing spread of AIDS is mother to child transmission.I was struck by how if we spent a small amout of money (£7) a child could receive the appropriate medication to ensure they can not contract the infection.

I believe every child in the world could receive this medication but we are consumed by messgaes in which consumerism has ripped apart our individual and collective consciousness. As I reflect on I how may times a month I blow £7. Its so easy to allow the lure and messages of consumerism to fill my mind.
